Workplace Violence
Workplace violence is one of the most important health and safety topics you can provide for your employees. It is one of the greatest occupational hazards they face everyday. As a business owner you can reduce the risk substantially through proper security and training. Murders and assaults in an occupational setting don't even make the frontpage anymore because they are so common. They happen in your community. They happen in everyone's community. Based on a Bureau of Labor Statistics study, murder was the number 2 killer in the workplace over a five year average. It was the number one cause of death for women. Not having an OSHA standard that covers this does not mean you are not required to have a written plan or program to address the hazard. Remember? The General Duty Clause applies, as does due diligence.
